The Role of Theatre in Developing Social Awareness and Aesthetic Values in the Human Personality
In a distinguished initiative by Bayt al-Hikma – Department of Social Studies, a specialized scientific workshop titled “The Role of Theatre in Developing Social Awareness and Aesthetic Values in the Human Personality” was held on Sunday, 30 November 2025, with the attendance of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Qahtan Nama Hassan Al-Khafaji.
The workshop was chaired by the Cultural Advisor of Bayt al-Hikma, Dr. Imad Jassim, and moderated by Ms. Fatima Hamed, rapporteur of the Department of Social Studies.
The discussions focused on ways to enhance the enlightening and aesthetic role of theatre through a set of studies and research papers, in addition to identifying the key needs of Iraqi theatre and the challenges it faces, with the aim of strengthening its impact and effectiveness on audiences.
Prof. Hussein Ali Harf presented a scientific paper titled “Children’s Theatre and Its Role in Developing Social Awareness and Enhancing Aesthetic Taste in the Child’s Personality.”
Assistant Professor Dr. Rahman Abdul-Hussein Al-Tamimi from the Institute of Fine Arts – Department of Theatrical Arts delivered his paper, “The Role of Theatre in Developing Social Awareness.”
In another contribution, Dr. Alaa Kareem Farhan from the Iraqi Media Network presented his study, “The Aesthetics of Theatre and Their Impact on Developing Social Awareness.”
The workshop concluded with Dr. Safira Naji Jassim from the College of Fine Arts – University of Baghdad, who presented her scientific paper titled “Theatre Between Enlightenment and Barbarity: The Dialectic of Regression and Change.”
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees delivered a speech in which he highlighted Bayt al-Hikma’s commitment to social issues, as well as the department’s projects that focus on human development and the promotion of artistic taste in society. He emphasized the significant impact that this historic institution continues to have a role in improving governmental and civil sectors across various levels, offering valuable contributions to support the advancement of Iraqi society.
The workshop was attended by a large group of theatre professionals, artists, intellectuals, and university professors, whose insights and discussions enriched the event.
