The General Authority of Iraqi Customs Visits Bayt al-Hikma
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Bayt al-Hikma, Dr. Qahtan Neama Hassan Al-Khafaji, received in his office at Bayt al-Hikma the Director General of the General Authority of Iraqi Customs, Dr. Thamer Qasim Dawood, on Wednesday, November 5, 2025. The visit aimed to discuss prospects for joint cooperation between the two institutions in documenting and reviving Iraq’s customs heritage.
During the meeting, both sides discussed a joint cooperation project designed to shed light on Iraq’s customs heritage and preserve it as part of the institutional memory of the Iraqi state. The project also seeks to transform this heritage into well-documented research and cultural material that accurately reflects the identity of Iraq’s national customs system.
Dr. Al-Khafaji welcomed the initiative of the General Authority of Customs to engage with intellectual and cultural institutions, affirming Bayt al-Hikma’s readiness—with its scientific and technical capabilities—to support this project, which aims to enrich Iraqi research sources with studies documenting the historical trajectory of reputable state institutions.
For his part, Dr. Dawood expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the warm reception, emphasizing the Authority’s commitment to preserving Iraq’s civilizational legacy through cooperation with intellectual and research institutions, particularly Bayt al-Hikma. He also highlighted the importance of the Authority’s collections as tangible evidence of the Iraqi state’s history and its administrative and economic evolution, and praised the role of national institutions in showcasing Iraq’s cultural and civilizational identity.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Assistant Professor Dr. Muhannad Abdul Hassan Jalab, and the Secretary-General, Professor Dr. Haider Qasim Matar Al-Tamimi.
