 *The Language: Our Gateway to the Other* 
On Monday, October 20, 2025,   the Department of Linguistic and Translation Studies at Bayt Al-Hikma (House of Wisdom), organized a student event titled "The Language: Our Gateway to the Other." The event was held in Al-Khwarizmi Hall and was attended by a group of faculty staff and students from the English Department at the College of Arts, University of Baghdad.
The event included analytical readings of selected linguistic and literary books prepared by a group of professors from the College of Arts, in addition to an in-depth discussion of the intellectual contents of these books. It also witnessed  a review of the most prominent timeless novelistic works from world literature. The event was interspersed with poetry readings and interactive discussions in both Arabic and English among the participating students, who presented personal and practical experiences, as well as scientific, literary, and cultural initiatives.
This event aims to revive meaningful linguistic dialogue, build bridges of communication across generations through language, and enhance literary and intellectual appreciation among the rising youth. Through the organization of student activities, Bayt Al-Hikma is keen to achieve important societal goals, including supporting mutual understanding between individuals, correcting misconceptions, and identifying different viewpoints. Furthermore, these events enhance national belonging and work to consolidate the national identity.
