Promoting a Culture of Safety and Environmental Awareness to Create a Safe Work Environment
Bayt al-Hikma – Women’s Affairs Department organized an awareness lecture for its employees entitled “Promoting a Culture of Safety and Environment: A Shared Responsibility for Creating a Safe Work Environment” on Wednesday, 8 January 2026, at the Mirrors Hall of Bayt al-Hikma. The event was held as part of the institution’s efforts to enhance institutional awareness of occupational safety, health, and environmental concepts.
The session was chaired by Ms. Yasmin Abdul Razzaq Bejan, Head of the Women’s Affairs Department at Bayt al-Hikma, and delivered by Ms. Kifaya Hassan Mohammed, Consultant at the Safety Office for Engineering and Environmental Consultations in Maysan Governorate.
The lecture highlighted the importance of raising employees’ awareness of occupational safety and environmental protection in the workplace, promoting a culture of risk prevention, and reinforcing the principle of shared responsibility between management and staff. These efforts contribute to creating a safe, healthy, and sustainable work environment, reducing accidents and injuries, and ensuring the continuity of work with high efficiency.
The lecturer provided a comprehensive presentation on the concept of occupational safety in the work environment and the potential risks within government institutions, particularly electrical hazards and fires, as well as the health and psychological impacts resulting from unsafe working conditions. The lecture also addressed the role of senior management and employees in promoting a culture of occupational and environmental safety and health, the importance of safety and emergency plans, mechanisms for risk control, and raising awareness of potential and near-miss incidents. In addition, it reviewed general safety tools, evacuation plans, and proper conduct during emergencies.
In his address, the President of the Board of Trustees of Bayt al-Hikma, Dr. Qahtan Ni‘ma Hassan Al-Khafaji, emphasized that occupational safety is no longer a secondary option, but rather a fundamental pillar of sound institutional work. He noted that building a safe and healthy work environment directly contributes to improving performance levels, protecting human resources, and ensuring the sustainability of operations. He also stressed the importance of spreading preventive awareness among employees and fostering a culture of adherence to instructions and procedures that protect both individuals and the institution.
The lecture witnessed strong interaction from employees, reflecting their recognition of safety as a collective responsibility that contributes to their protection and ensures the continuity of institutional performance with high efficiency. Preventive measures and adherence to safety procedures represent the first line of defense in safeguarding lives and property.
