Baytul-Hikma, through its Department of Islamic Studies and in cooperation with the Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights, organized a scientific lecture titled "The Concept of Human Rights Between Islamic Civilization and Western Culture" on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. The event took place in the Dr. Mahmoud Ali Al-Daoud Hall, with the presence of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Qahtan Neama Al-Khafaji.
The session was chaired by Mr. Ali Saleh Alawi, a researcher and internationally certified trainer in human rights, and was moderated by Mr. Ali Hassan Hamza from the Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights.
The lecture focused on a vital issue for all societies—human rights—by presenting a comparative study of the concept from both Islamic and Western cultural perspectives.
The main lecture was delivered by Dr. Nidaa Sabah Zuboon, President of the Future of the Nation Organization for Relief and Development and the Women’s Rehabilitation Movement. Dr. Zuboon offered an introductory explanation of human rights principles and their significance within both the Islamic and Western frameworks. She provided an objective comparison of the philosophical and intellectual roots behind each perspective.
Her presentation included an overview of human rights as outlined in both international and Islamic charters, highlighting points of convergence and divergence, as well as mutual critiques. Dr. Zuboon recommended developing contemporary Islamic discourse, activating Islamic charters, and reassessing Western policies that use the concept of human rights as a tool of political pressure. She also emphasized the importance of focusing on shared values to foster meaningful intercultural dialogue and raising youth awareness of the Islamic view of human rights, particularly by integrating these values into school curricula.
The session also featured an interactive discussion among participating researchers and academic experts, who enriched the lecture through their insights and commentary.
