The Identity of the Muslim Woman Between Tradition and Modernity – A Qur’anic Study
Bayt al-Hikma –
Department of Islamic Studies, in cooperation with the Department of Women’s Affairs, organized a scientific lecture titled “The Identity of the Muslim Woman Between Tradition and Modernity – A Qur’anic Study” on Monday, October 13, 2025, at the Maraya Hall in Bayt al-Hikma.
The lecture was presented by Dr. Sajida Mohammed Ali from the Department of Islamic Studies at Bayt al-Hikma, and was moderated by Dr. Nawar Ali Ahmed from the Department of Women’s Affairs.
The session shed light on the Qur’anic foundations of the Muslim woman’s identity, highlighting the distinction between Qur’anic identity and social heritage, and examining contemporary challenges facing society. It also offered a balanced Qur’anic perspective on the role of women, bridging authenticity and modernity.
Dr. Sajida provided a detailed explanation of how to preserve the original identity of the Muslim individual, particularly women. She discussed the concept of identity, social heritage, and the position of Muslim women in the modern era, emphasizing the balance between tradition and modernity in accordance with the teachings of the Holy Qur’an. She presented Qur’anic examples, verses, and historical events that demonstrate women’s vital role and significant contributions to society, showing that women possess capabilities equal to those of men, thereby contributing to the development of cohesive and progressive communities.
The researcher also addressed how the Qur’an dealt with women’s issues, emphasizing the divine message aimed at building human beings regardless of religion, ethnicity, or creed. She concluded with a set of findings and recommendations that could help address the challenges discussed.
The lecture was attended by a group of researchers, academics, and staff members of Bayt al-Hikma, whose interventions and comments enriched the session.
