Contemporary Iraqi Readings in Islamic Philosophy


 
Contemporary Iraqi Readings in Islamic Philosophy  Department of Philosophical Studies, in Bayt Al Hikma in cooperation with the College of Islamic Sciences at University of Baghdad and the Department of Philosophy, College of Arts, Al-Mustansiriya University, organized a scientific seminar entitled “Contemporary Iraqi Readings in Islamic Philosophy” on Tuesday, 17 February 2026, at the Hall of Mirrors at Bayt Al-Hikma, in the presence of the Vice President of the Board of Trustees of Bayt Al-Hikma, Dr. Muhannad Abdul-Hassan.
The session was chaired by Dr. Mohammed Hussein Al-Najm, Supervisor of the Department of Philosophical Studies at Bayt Al-Hikma, and moderated by Assistant Lecturer Tamara Dakhel Qasim from the Department of Philosophy, College of Arts, Al-Mustansiriya University.
The seminar highlighted the importance of rereading the Islamic philosophical heritage through contemporary Iraqi perspectives that combine historical verification with critical analysis, aiming to demonstrate the contribution of Iraqi scholars to renewing philosophical studies and linking them to contemporary issues.
The seminar witnessed the participation of several specialized academics who presented critical and contemporary readings in Islamic philosophical thought. Professor Dr. Raed Jabbar Kazem from the Department of Philosophy, College of Arts, Al-Mustansiriya University, presented a paper entitled “Ali Al-Murhij as a Reader of Ibn Rushd*.”*
Professor Dr. Yassin Hussein Al-Waisi from the College of Islamic Sciences, University of Baghdad, presented a research paper entitled “Contemporary Iraqi Efforts in the Study of Mu‘tazilite Thought: Abdul-Sattar Al-Rawi and Yahya Al-Mashhadani as Selected Models.”
Dr. Raheem Mohammed Salem Al-Saadi from the Department of Philosophy, College of Arts, Al-Mustansiriya University, presented a paper entitled “A Reading of the Philosophy of Kamil Mustafa Al-Shaibi.”
Assistant Professor Dr. Omar Saadi Abbas from the College of Islamic Sciences, University of Baghdad, discussed in his paper “The Concept of Reason According to Dr. Naji Hussein Jawda: Sufi Philosophical Approaches.”
The seminar concluded with a paper by Assistant Professor Dr. Hadeel Saadi Mousa, Head of the Department of Philosophy at the College of Arts, Al-Mustansiriya University, entitled “The Presence of the Philosophy of Nasir al-Din al-Tusi* in the Thought of Abdul-Amir Al-A‘sam.”*

The seminar was attended by a distinguished group of professors and academic researchers. It included several interventions and discussions that created a dynamic dialogue space for exchanging views and ideas, enriching the themes and outcomes of the seminar.
